#67. Oaklawn Splash Pad & Idlewild Park

I received a flyer from Junior League about a special splash with dad event at Oaklawn Splash Pad. Hold the phone… there's another splash pad in the Wichita area?! How did we not know about this?! We had to go check it out! It's located south of Wichita in Oak Lawn, at 2937 Oaklawn Drive.

We started at the playground side of the park, and it was a blast from the past. I haven't seen the ride-on metal animals in a long time! This park does need a little bit of TLC, but we had a blast there with both the modern and older equipment.

Look Mommy, a fidget spinner!

Sully's cooking up some sand pies!

After we goofed off, it was time to cool off. Across the parking lot is the splash pad. There's a community center, but we didn't check it out because Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) members were using it for a private function. I love BACA… they do so many great things in our community!

But back to the splash pad… Wow! It was so fun! We played for a long, long time. Sully's favorite part was running over to the button when it was time to start the water again.

Functions:

  • Playground Base: Sand
  • Swings
  • Slides
  • Splash Pad
  • Baseball Field
  • Bathrooms: Yes. Portapotties by the park and ball field and bathrooms inside the community center.
  • Water Fountain: the one we found didn't work, but there may have been more we didn't see.
  • Picnic Tables
  • Park Benches

Mom Tips: Use your GPS, as the park is hidden in the back of a neighborhood. There are some shaded picnic tables in the fenced in splash area. It'd be great for a picnic lunch and play!

Kid Tips: The splash park was probably their favorite splash park so far! They both didn't want to leave. Weston says "two thumbs up!"
