Heritage Square Park was our second to last park. We’d been putting it off since you have to pay admission to the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum to visit the park behind the building. We wanted to make sure we had enough time to enjoy both the museum and the park.
Features:
- Playground: None
- Gazebo
- Decorative Fountain
- Museum with Gift Shop
- Bathrooms: Inside Museum
The museum was fascinating, with historical displays on four floors. I asked the staff, and they said that the tower is only open a few times per year. We’ll have to come back for the candlelight tours in the fall!
Mom Tips: There are a lot of displays in the museum that are easily accessed and touched by little hands. Weston and Sully were a bit young to appreciate most of the museum, so I spent a lot of time hovering instead of enjoying the displays. I definitely want to go back and spend more time perusing and learning about our city’s history.
Kid Tips: The boys loved the soda fountain display, but wished it was in operation on the hot day we went. The gazebo in the park was a perfect place for one of their ‘shows,’ and they want to come back for one of the concerts held in the park sometime soon.
